A fire at the Citadelle de Quebec
At 8:05 am, a worker called 9-1-1 to report that a fire had originated in an underground mechanical room located in a small independent building of the fortress.
Twenty firefighters were mobilized to prevent the spread of the fire.
The electricity was cut off and the firefighters fought the flames with a powder extinguisher through a grid.
Thirty-five minutes later, the fire chief declared the aggravation of the fire unlikely.
“The damage is limited to this mechanical room,” says Bill Noonan, spokesman for the Fire Protection Service of Quebec City.
Work was underway at the Citadelle, a fort located on the Cap Diamant which forms an integral part of the fortifications of the old city of Quebec.
