Bombardier announced Wednesday that they have signed an agreement of 669 million US $for the supply of 113 commuter cars in New Jersey.
The company said that the contract does not generate additional work in Canada, since the rules of the “Buy American” mean that the contract will be executed by the Bombardier plant in Plattsburgh, in the State of New York, rather than from its facilities in Quebec.
Since 2018, at least 65 % of the cost of the components of the transit projects must be manufactured in the United States, and the final assembly must also take place on american soil. The threshold of minimum content that will increase to 70 % by 2020.
Announced Wednesday, the agreement with New Jersey Transit includes options on a maximum of 886 cars the additional.
This is the third agreement between Bombardier and the transit agency of the State for cars of suburban trains. The other contracts were awarded in 2002 and 2010.
