The muzzle mandatory for all dogs, but not everywhere
After raising the scolding of dog owners earlier this week by proposing the obligation to muzzle all dogs over 10 kilos, the municipality of Saint-Honoré, Saguenay, takes a step back. It will finally impose the muzzle on all dogs on its territory, regardless of their weight, but only in the context of major events.
C’is what the mayor Bruno Tremblay has advised its citizens on Thursday afternoon, adding in passing that the measure would apply only during certain defined events, such as festivals, dinner in the streets or the feast of Saint John for example.
“Honestly, we did not think it would make that much noise. It’s okay that people like their dog, but there are places for animals and places without animals, “said Mayor Tremblay.
Difficult to implement
By dropping the question of the weight of dogs and adding a geographical framework to force the muzzle, the municipality ensures that it can apply its by-law if it is adopted by the municipal council. “I always said that the regulation was under study and flexible. I want to protect the citizens as much as possible. We have more and more young families in Saint-Honoré, but with the weight, the regulation was difficult to apply, “says the mayor, who notes that the inspectors should have carried a balance to check the weight of the dogs.
Citizens wishing to be heard on the subject are invited to attend the next Municipal Council meeting on Monday, September 16, at 7:30 pm
Local information matters to me and I want to participate in the future of my life.
