The Phoenix has fun with the Foreurs

The Sherbrooke Phœnix had fun at the expense of the Foreurs of Val d’Or on Saturday, ridiculing their opponent by the score of 7-0. Stephane Julien’s troupe, who scored three goals on the first four shots, simply was too strong for that of Pascal Rhéaume, who could do nothing against the speed of the Birds.
It must be said that the Foreurs are quite bumpy. Four players playing on the first three lines fell in battle. In two years, Pascal Rhéaume – who was the assistant coach of the Phoenix – could not enjoy a victory against his former team.

“It started badly,” says Rhéaume. On the first sequence, we were in their zone and we worked hard. It’s a bad goal, it’s gone stiff. They scored two goals fast enough. After, we took a momentum at the end of the first. They managed to make another big goal on the power play. At 3-0, it broke our two legs. I felt that the guys had their heads down. ”

The Sherbrookois could have seemed rusty after their break of a week, but it was the opposite. The Phoenix came off as a lion, scoring three goals on four shots. Alex-Olivier Voyer, a shot in the corner near the close, Samuel Poulin, left alone in front of the goal and Jacob Rabouin a weak shot from the tip have escaped the vigilance of Jonathan Lemieux in the first period.

Sherbrooke kept pace early in the second. Félix Robert scored 25 seconds after the first punt of the second period and Benjamin Tardif did the same a little over a minute later, chasing goalkeeper Lemieux.

Tardif quickly welcomed Francesco Lapenna, who was in the match, counting the sixth of his own.

But Lapenna was not intimidated, on the contrary. The Phoenix could have scored many more goals had the substitute goalkeeper stayed at the end of the visitors’ bench. The goalkeeper has multiplied the majestic stops on escaped and nasty. He only gave up twice on 35 shots.

“We could not play offensive against offensive, says Pascal Rhéaume. We did not have the attack to compete against the Phoenix tonight. When you pull back 3-0, mentally, you want to cheat. You work less hard. The Phoenix had his foot on the gas and did not let go. ”

Benjamin Tardif earned the first star thanks to his two goals. “It was done on two beautiful passes by Patrick Guay. I think we have a nice complicity, we and Taro Jentzsch. He may not have had a point, but we played nice games with him. The next part, it’s going to go! ” does he think.

The Phoenix will be in action at 3 pm Sunday at the Sports Palace against the Armada.

What they said:

Pascal Rhéaume on the success of his former club: “It’s fun. It is a very nice organization, I loved my stay. The general manager, Jocelyn Thibault, is my boyfriend. Same thing for Stéphane Julien. I am very proud to have worked for them and proud to see them succeed. It’s a team that has gone away. She had difficult years. Currently, I’m fine, I lift my hat. ”

Stéphane Julien on the indiscipline that was less marked Saturday night: “It has been a big job this week. As a coach, I did a lot of things with guys about this. It was one of the only problems we had since the beginning of the season. This week, I gave the guys the chance to arrange with each other to find ways to discipline each other. I think they responded well. I saw a difference today, guys were paying attention. ”

Jacob Rabouin on his first goal: “It’s been a long time since I counted, it feels good! I’ll give credit to my guys, they played a whole game tonight. For the Phoenix, it was great. We are where we want to be. “
